MSN to Blogger and Adu is at Benfica

Well, this will be my last post here. I've moved my blogging to blogger.com. Why you ask? Well I'm glad you asked, at times it can be very cumbersome to post or rearrange the format here. MSN is "visually pleasing", but it lacks in simplicity (at least with me). With blogger, it's like bam bam bam and I'm done posting. With school coming up (16 Aug) and the fact I'm probably going to be taking 17 credit hours, along with lab work, research that I plan to get involved with, and of course soccer, I wanted something quicker and easier to blog on. Plus blogger allows more freedom to manipulate the blog style itself.  Instead of having a set background, I can change it to whatever I want instead of searching through other predetermined backgrounds (teaching myself CSS and HTML).  Of course now that I've said all that I find that you can change the blog style and background picture here in the advanced section under the customize drop menu.  Also does anyone's page perpetually load if you don't stop it?

Freddy Adu in Lisbon having a training session with his new club S.L. Benfica. Porto will still beat them.

Oh, "wonder kid" Freddy (or Freddie) Adu will be playing for SL Benfica this next season. I think that is a good move for him, I've read that he turned down Italian club giants Inter Milan a while ago. I think turning down Inter was a smart move on his part. Adu will get so much more definite playing time with Benfica in the Portuguese Liga than he would playing for an already esteemed and well stacked Inter Milan team. Although it's hard to say how much of an impact he will have on the club. Real Salt Lake had him and they were still the worst team in the MLS with him on the roster (and still are). Benfica finished third last season (ha ha) and this acquisition could put them in serious contention for the 07-08 league title. Of course, they'll have to beat Porto and I just don't see that happening.

P.S. - This blog is now retired...  comments are welcome as I will check in occasionally and respond.

Thierry Henry is Now Barca!

Well, it's time to move on. I've been over at the news station's forums waiting for some sign of civility without any luck. Oh well... it has also been raining for the past 3 days here. I haven't been able to go to the fields and play because they are swamped! I'm a little peeved about that.
Anyway... I'm sure many Arsenal fans are upset about the move of Theirry Henry, but as expected I'm excited. After a disappointing second place this year in the La Liga (to Real Madrid of all teams), the Catalans have added another weapon to their arsenal of fire power in hopes to put them back onto the top of the league next year. Thierry Henry made up his mind and decided to go to the good side on Monday...

Henry will have the likes of Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o, Leo Messi, and a load of others on the field with him next season. Expectations will be exceedingly high for Barcelona next season (similar to the beginning of last season's expectations after winning the Champions' League), which I hope can be met. Now my expectations are probably a little different and much simpler. I surely expect them to finish on top next season in the league, and if not, I expect a finish above Real Madrid. That's it, but, I'm just a fan. While Barcelona will be sick next season, I don't know if they could be as good as the Arsenal squad who went undefeated a couple of years ago, or the one loss Inter Milan team of last season. Time will tell. Liverpool may become the best team in the EPL after I heard they signed Fernando Torres of Atletico Madrid.

BTW I think the blue and red look very good on Henry!!

It's Been About 4 Years!

Two weeks ago I played my first outdoor football match in 4 years.  Not since I was 19 had I stepped foot on the pitch in a real match setting.  Why has it been such a long time?  Back when I was 19 I was part of a team who went to a tournament in Columbia, Missouri.  Well, the team got spanked in all three games, and I got schooled severely as a defender.  I specifically remember in the last game before the end of the tournament, I was playing right defense and our opponents were big men, huge men, at least 30 year olds who were big and quick.  At that time I thought I was talented and tried to use my evasive quickness to outplay my forwards.  Big mistake.  I remember a ball coming close to the sideline, I approached it with a forward on my back.  I thought I'd be cute and tried to make a move down the sidelines past him, but I had the ball stolen from me and I ended up chasing down the forward to the goal to stop him and redeem myself from the mistake.  Well, he scored...  I was so upset about that, I vowed from that night on to practice not only on my defensive skills but my ball skills.  I did for four years only playing indoor games which helped quicken my decision making and helped me read the game better, and I also practiced solo on outdoor fields.

Anyway, back to two weeks ago, I was filling in for a team who apparently didn't have many subs.  They had me playing left defender on my first game in four years!  I am not a lefty...yet.  However, lucky for them and me, an entire month prior to this match I had been diligently working on my left foot touches so I now have confidence in my left foot unlike four years ago.  However, my crosses from twenty yards out into the box aren't the way I want them yet, they get there but the bend is missing.  For some reason I am very clam and collected when I possess the ball in indoor matches, but in outdoor with possession I'm frantic and very nervous.  Four years away from the outdoor style one forgets what to do when 22 men are on the field compared to 10 men on a smaller field with walls.  I was surprised at how well the team played overall.  I'm used to losing believe it or not and this outdoor team wins.  We won the first game 4-0, won the second game 5-2, and we drew the third game 3-3.  After this past weekend they cemented a #1 seed into this weekend's tournament.  After 4 years, it felt good to get back outside onto the pitch to gauge my skill level so I can know where I stand for K.U.
